What this beta reports
Metadata is descriptive, not proof. A declared field may be missing, stale or intentionally misleading, so PigPDF separates presence checks from verification.
| Document feature | Current behavior | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Information dictionary and XMP | Read | Long or unusually numerous fields are display-limited. |
| Forms and signature fields | Presence only | Signature validity and field values are not verified. |
| JavaScript actions | Flagged | Actions are detected as data and never executed. |
| Password-protected or damaged PDFs | Rejected | No password entry or repair path in this beta. |
| Source document | Unchanged | The optional JSON report contains no PDF bytes. |

Questions and limits
Does Metadata Viewer change my PDF?
No. This is a read-only tool. It opens the selected bytes locally, builds an in-memory report and leaves the source file unchanged.
Can it verify a digital signature?
No. The beta can report that signature fields are present, but it does not validate signer identity, certificate trust, revocation status or whether the signed revision is intact.
Does it execute JavaScript found in a PDF?
No. PDF.js is configured without evaluated PDF code. The report can flag that document-level JavaScript actions exist, but PigPDF does not run them.
What is included in the JSON report?
The report contains the displayed file facts, metadata fields and feature signals. It does not include the PDF bytes or embedded attachment contents.
